JANIKA FAZANDE

Janika Fazande is the Assistant Principal at Dorothy Height Charter School. In this role, Janika provides leadership, coaching, and development to teachers in the areas of curriculum implementation and classroom culture. Janika is a founding staff member at Height and previously served as a kindergarten teacher, PK-2 Team Leader, and Director of Curriculum and Instruction (DCI). As a kindergarten teacher, her scholars consistently achieved end-of-year reading benchmark goals, with 65% or more going to 1st grade on or above grade level or making 1.5 years of reading growth. Prior to becoming DCI, Janika participated in a year long leadership training program with Building Excellent Schools/LENS where she received extensive school leadership training, as well as the opportunity to coach teachers. Janika began her teaching career in 2011, where she taught at a public school in the 9th Ward of New Orleans. Janika believes strongly in the values and mission of Height and its belief that with a good foundation in education, all students can have a life of opportunity and choice. Janika is a native of New Orleans and received her Bachelor’s degree in Family and Child Development from the University of New Orleans.
